love of my life

every day i'm amazed at how much more i love this man.

i'm amazed at how wonderful my life is because i share his last name.

being his wife has been all i can ask for AND much much more.

i love him for so many reasons.

i love him for planning for the future of our family.

he's SO hilarious!

he brought me jamba juice today.

he planned a wonderful birthday weekend for me....all in secret!

he's a good kisser.

he has a drive a motivation that i admire.

he does things for me that i don't deserve.

i'm so proud of him for how hard he works at his job, the kids he ministers to, and his passion to go back to school to be a nurse.

he is a wonderful spiritual leader for us as a couple and will continue to be with our family one day.

OBVIOUSLY he is SUPER hott!!

he has wonderful family who i love very much. he also loves my family like they are his own.

i couldn't ask for anyone better to love, love me, grow with, learn with, serve, and cherish. this has been the best 280 day of my life (how long we have been married). i love you landon!

birthday weekend

i've been waiting to post this blog since tuesday (day after my birthday). i had a wonderful weekend-before-my-birthday! There were a lot of amazing people who made it so special!! Here's a run down of the weekend:

Friday: I worked out at the Middle School that Landon works at so we got to eat lunch together and see each other pretty much all day. Friday night we used a gift card to Olive Garden that was given to us and had a nice dinner. We can back home and Landon finished our wedding video (which i absolutely LOVE and i got teary the first time i watched it).
Saturday: Landon slept in with me (if you know Landon, you know that is a big deal for him). We got up and cooked a wonderful breakfast of waffles, eggs, and peppered bacon (basically Old West at home...DELICIOUS!) Later, we went out to Landon's parents house to show them our wedding video and hang out with them for a few hours. We came home and just hung out and watched Bruce Almighty.

Sunday: After church, Landon, me, Jonas, and Seth went to Fuzzy's to eat for my "birthday lunch". It was SO good! (i love all of Denton's little hometown restaurants) When we got back to the apartment Landon took me to Kiln Time! We had so much fun! We painted a spoon rest because I have been needing/wanting one and it turned out SUPER cute. Later that evening, Landon told me we were going to his parents house for birthday dinner with his family. We got out there and there were a lot of cars out there! I walked in the house to 20 friends and family who were there to surprise me for my birthday! They made Kabobs and cake and I opened all my presents (probably got more this year than I have since I was little). I've been blessed with great friends here and a wonderful husband who put it all together!
so excited to be in her wedding!
all my fun stuff
just two of the wonderful friends who were at my party

Monday: BIRTH-DAY! Again, I got to work with Landon at his middle school so we ate lunch together again. Every Monday we go to some great friend's house to eat dinner and watch the Bachelor. The Clarks made my birthday night extra special! They cooked dinner and Karen made a DELICIOUS angel food cake, opened more presents, and then watched the Bachelor. It was such a fun night! Karen decorated the table so cute for me!! The Clarks have become like a second family to me!
karen gave me a napkin holder with the next napkins for the next 3 holidays coming up!!
Overall it was a wonderful weekend and monday. I'm so blessed with wonderful friends and family and the most amazing husband i could ever ask for (he gets his own post next time because he is just THAT phenomenal!) If you helped make my birthday so special, thank you so much! i'm so thankful for you!!

subbing...and the lessons i've learned

over the last 5 months, i have been subbing in several different districts. i have had every age from kindergarten to 8th grade, and every subject from art to social studies to music to math to p.e.. i have had good days, and i have had bad days. i have subbed for wonderful teachers, and i have subbed for teachers that i hope i never become like them. i have learned that a drink of water can just about fix anything including a tummy ache, a head ache, a hurt toe, a splinter, or just being tired. i have learned that 5th and 6th graders are my favorite age, but 6th graders win because you only have them for 45 minutes at a time. with 5th graders, you have the same 20 kids ALL DAY. i have learned that some 2nd graders think they are know-it-alls and 8th graders think they are cooler than me. i have learned that i was never sneaky when i was in junior high and passed notes...the teacher most definitely always saw me and just let it slide.

here is my list of my most memorable subbing moments and lessons i've learned thus far...both good and not so good.
(in no particular order)

1. 3rd grader: "My name is Zach, but you can call me Zach Attack for short."
2. 8th grade girls trying to be sneaky by passing notes during a video in class. i finally embarrassed them and said "girls i don't mind as long as you are paying attention." i scared them pretty bad, ha.
3. i don't get paid to grade a teachers papers who i'm not even subbing for. actually, i don't get paid to grade anyones papers. AND for the record, that's kind of illegal.
4. kindergardeners hit, tattle, pee their pants, can't sit in their seats, and can't tie their shoes. therefore, they are not for me.
5. middle school is perfect when i take a book...i can usually read half a book in one day.
6. 5th grade boy: "Are you married?" me: "Yes" 5th grade boy: "aww man!" did he honestly think he had a chance?
7. teachers: please be organized with your sub plans, especially elementary!!!
8. i have seen a more well behaved class of 2nd graders than 7th graders
9. i had a 2nd grader who carried around a titanic book the whole day. the kids kept telling me he loved the titanic but it wasn't until i heard him humming The Titanic theme song that i really believed them.
10. i love colored pens. if a teacher has colored pens, i will sign every attendance sheet with a different color.

that's all i can think of off the top of my head for now! i'm sure there are PLENTY more!

long friona weekend

landon and i planned to go to friona to spend a long weekend with my family. we hadn't seen them since christmas, and i was very ready! we didn't have school on monday (presidents day) and my family didn't have school on friday. we were going to leave friday morning so we were looking forward to a nice long weekend...but not as long as what we ended up getting.

wednesday night we went to bed knowing that thursday at some point it was supposed to snow. we woke up thursday morning to an inch of snow on the ground and the announcement on the news that school was cancelled for us. we decided to go ahead and pack everything up and head to the panhandle. we barely got out in time before it was too dangerous to drive. between denton and wichita falls we actually saw 15 cars either wrecked or stranded in the ditch because of the weather. it snowed on us constantly until wichita falls.

my two younger sisters had a playoff game thursday night so we surprised my family at the game. they weren't expecting us until friday afternoon, so that was a lot of fun and it was SO good to see them! everyone was there except my sister staci. i can't tell you how good of a feeling it is when i see my nephews and they smile and say "hi b!!" it makes me smile just thinking about it!

friday we got up and headed over to my sisters house to hang out with her and my nephews. last time we were home, boston (2) was a little grouch and his favorite word was "NNNOOOOO" to EVERYTHING, including "i love you boston". this visit, he was SO MUCH FUN! he laughed, played, talked, drew pictures, and colored. and he absolutely LOVED landon and always wanted to ride his "horsey". cash seems to be getting bigger and smarter every time we see him. he has such a funny personality! he is so fun to run around with, but i love when he has just woken up from a nap and just wants to cuddle. friday night staci came home to see us and we went to another basketball game then home for some good home-grown steaks (by home-grown, i mean that my dad raised the cow that we ate), hashbrown casserole, and salad...oh man, i've missed that kind of meal!

saturday we woke up and went to ANOTHER basketball game, my sister staci's this time, and then home to hang out with my sister, brother-in-law, and nephew's house to hang out with the siblings! sunday was church and hung out with my parents all day!

monday, since my family had school, we left monday morning to head back to denton. we took a different route than normal, and since we weren't in any hurry to get back, we stopped at historical markers on our way back. we learned some pretty interesting stuff and it was a fun activity to keep the drive from getting too boring. while we were gone, we heard news reports that the DFW area had gotten 12+ inches of snow over the weekend. school ended up being cancelled on friday as well. when we pulled into town, there was no proof that it had snowed other than the random snowmen that were halfway melted in the parks. other than that, there was NO snow anywhere.

we were kind of sad we missed all the snow since we won't see that much snow again...probably ever, but we had such a great weekend with my family! i was ready to be home and sleep in my own bed, but i'm already looking forward to getting to spend spring break with my family!

month of my birthday

just a little update on what's been going around in the turrubiarte's lives!

-2 weeks ago, my 3 year old nephew called and said, "mommy has a baby in her tummy!" yes, i'm going to be an aunt for the 3rd time! she goes to the doctor next week, but she is thinking she is due mid-september! i'm SOOOO excited! i asked my sister what cash (3 year old nephew) said when they told him (because he has been asking to go to the store to get a baby for quite a while now), and she said his eyes got really big, he covered his mouth and dramatically said, "OH MY GOODNESS, I WANT TWO OF THEM!!!" haha amy and a.j. don't necessarily feel the same way, ha, but everyone is really excited!

- i've been reading a lot lately. subbing, especially subbing in middle school allows me to read a whole lot! in the last 2-3 weeks, i've read 5 or 6 books! i have a library card and i love going to the library often! the books i have read are: Shades of Blue by Karen Kingsbury, Waiting for Morning by Karen Kingsbury, Where Yesterday Lives by Karen Kingsbury, The Choice by Nicholas Sparks, The Trophy Wives Club by Kristen Billerbeck, and i am halfway through with The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks. all of them have been "just one more chapter" kind of books! I really love Karen Kingsbury and the lessons that can be learned just from the characters in her books. Nicholas Sparks are sappy romantic books that just about any girl would love. I want to read a couple series' by Francine Rivers next.

- i have not cooked a meal (well i did make eggs and biscuits and gravy this morning for landon) since last thursday. it's weird to think about how busy life is now and what we still have to come (kids). every day of the week we pretty much have something! i am ready to cook a meal for me and my husband, but it's looking like i won't be doing that until MAYBE sunday! ugh busy-ness!!

- i'm always so scared to get my hair cut by someone new. i've lived in denton for 8 and a half months. my wonderful mother-in-law gave me a gift card to her hair lady for christmas and i finally used it. i like it for the most part. it's different than what i've had so i need to figure out how to do it, different ways. maybe once it grows a little i'll like it more.

- my couch stinks! this is my "not me monday" kind of post so i don't offend anyone: my husband did NOT go camping in the freezing cold in the wichita mountains last weekend and not shower friday-sunday. that would be gross. he also did NOT come home and immediately sit on our couch to get on the computer. he would most definitely take a shower first thing. i did NOT get home from a baby shower and sit on the couch only to smell a horrid smell coming from the couch. i did NOT immediately go to target to buy some febreeze to get rid of the smell. i have NOT had to spray it 3 times since sunday. and the smell does NOT keep coming back. i did NOT look up ways to get a smelly couch clean today online. i am definitely NOT afraid that the smell won't come out!

- over the last couple months i have started singing in church with landon. it's been really fun to be able to serve the Lord as a couple. i was nervous at first, but he has been really encouraging and been confident in me so that i keep singing. two weeks i even had a "solo" part and will again this week. singing worship is one of my favorite things in the whole world, and the fact that i get to do it with my husband makes it even better.

- landon started taking a class this semester, A&P II. he is trying to get into nursing school this fall. this is something that he has always wanted to do and it's exciting to see how excited he is when he comes home from class. he finally feels like he is doing what he is supposed to be doing and i'm so proud of him!

- subbing has been going pretty good. i've been subbing just about every day, which has been good. i originally went into teaching with the mindset that i wanted to teach middle school, but as i went through school and did my student teaching, my mind changed to elementary. 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade i thought would be great. while not finding a teaching job has not been ideal, subbing has shown me where i really want to teach. i've subbed a lot in middle school and i'm really thinking that is where i'm leaning. i really like 6th or 7th grade math. obviously if i were offered an elementary job, i would most definitely take it, but i'm just praying that i will recognize the doors that the Lord is opening for me (and i sure wouldn't mind if it was a middle school math position either)

well that's about all the rambling i can come up with for now. i'm blessed and thankful.
